ParentsBack

My wife, Karen and I are just like most of you; married, have children and enjoy living in Katy, TX. We have stayed up nights worrying about the kids, wondering if they were safe, checking on who they are traveling with, wanting and needing to know who their friends are, just to cite some of our “sameness.”

We came to Katy because of the schools and stayed here 32 years! We have deep roots and have no plans to move, ever! Katy has been good to us and I feel I can do much to return the favor by serving on the KISD school board. Not because I am smarter than others, or have an inside track on ideas, but because I will respond to you and the needs of your children. I do however have some ideas for improvement, which I believe are in sync with what most of you desire and I want to get the board behind them. You will find more detailed information about these on this site.

My children are all Katy ISD graduates. Our “baby” was in the class of 08, our eldest in 98, and one in between. We have lived it all: honors classes, summer school, Saturday detention, achievement awards, project graduations, proms, field days, ARDs, lost homework, and the list goes on and on.

As a parent I am concerned about the future of our children. Education and opportunity are what they need to compete. Sometimes I go to campuses and think we are dumbing things down, other times I discover we are pushing awfully hard and I want our kids to have time to be kids. It is a tough balancing act for our teachers.

As a parent I believe with all my heart there are only three things I can do for my children which will make a real difference in their lives; love them, give them a moral compass, and provide them with the opportunity for an appropriate education. Beyond those, little else matters when determining the measure of what our children will grow into and become.

I hope you will take time to visit with the candidates. Ask where we stand on issues. There are only two debates where you will see all candidates at the same time. I hope you will be able to attend. The first is sponsored by the Katy Area Retired Educators (KARE) in the Merrell center on April 8th and is open to the public. The other is sponsored by the parents of the Katy Gifted and Talented to be held at Cinco Ranch Junior High School on April 23rd @ 7:00PM and is also open to the public.

If you have a forum you wish me to attend and stand before your group, let me know and I will do all I can to work it into my schedule. I hope you will encourage your friends and neighbors to come out and vote. So often these elections only drive a 5% voter turnout and we need to do much better than that, don’t you think?

Please send me your questions, call me and if inclined to do so, support me with your vote. Nothing matters, what I want, what you want unless you show up at the polls either through early voting or on Election Day, Saturday May 9th at most of our high schools and some junior highs.

Stay Tuned - More to come...
